The occasion for this Psalm was David’s situation when he was in the cave. Here David still wants to show his unshakable trust in God, even when in a “cave” of loneliness and discouragement.
It is an act of worship for David to cry aloud to the Lord and make supplications only to God.
I am reminded of a song that God used to bring me through my season of being in the “cave”
Verse 1: God and God alone created all these things we call our own
From the mighty to the small the Glory in them all is God’s and God’s alone.
Chorus: God and God alone is fit to take the universe’s throne
Let everything that lives reserve its truest praise for God and God alone.
Verse 2: God and God alone reveals the truth of all we call unknown
And the best and worst of man wont change the Master’s plan. It’s God’s and God’s alone.
Verse 3: God and God alone will be the joy of our eternal home
He will be our one desire Our hearts will never tire of God and God alone.
Like David, we can know that God will meet us in our cave, He will deal beautifully with us. Even in the depths of despair, we know God is with us.
