Speaking of Jesus a prophecy about Him from the book of Micah, is quoted in Matthew 2 verse 6:
6 ‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah,
Are not the least among the rulers of Judah;
For out of you shall come a Ruler
Who will shepherd My people Israel.’”
Many people today don’t like the idea of a ruler in their life, especially if they have had bad experiences of “rulers”, authority figures in their own lives. It conjures up for them pictures of authority figures who are overbearing, controlling, restrictive and at worst abusive.
We must grasp how Jesus wants to rule our lives. He wants to do so as the verse says, as one who will shepherd us. A shepherd who is doing his job, is always looking out for the good of his sheep, always leading them away from danger and toward what is beneficial. He always has the good of his sheep in mind and every decision he makes is made for that reason, as one who is wiser and better equipped to know what is and isn’t best for his sheep.
Who wouldn’t want a ruler like that in their life….a ruler who shepherds.
