In Zechariah 2 verse 4 & 5, one angel is told by another angel to relay a message to Zechariah, referred to as a “young man”. They read:
4 ….who said to him, “Run, speak to this young man, saying: ‘Jerusalem shall be inhabited as towns without walls, because of the multitude of men and livestock in it. 5 For I,’ says the Lord, ‘will be a wall of fire all around her, and I will be the glory in her midst.’”
In these verses a picture is given of Jerusalem prospering, reflected in the words ” the multitude of men and livestock in it” , while being as towns without walls, in other words humanly defenseless and vulnerable, because God said He would be ” a wall of fire all around her” , He would be her defense and protection.
It is a picture of Jerusalem prospering while trusting God for her welfare and protection.
God calls us to do the same. To prosper spiritually while trusting Him for our interests, concerns and needs. In prospering spiritually we must seek first His kingdom, God’s interests, which may mean we cannot give the attention to certain needs and interests of our own that society or others say we should, such as large amounts of money in the bank, or a comprehensive financial retirement plan.
That’s okay, God says as we seek His kingdom, seek to prosper spiritually, He’ll take care of us. God will be, a wall of fire all around us.
