Joel 2 verse 3 says, speaking of the plague of locusts God was bringing against Judah because of their sin:
3 A fire devours before them,
And behind them a flame burns;
The land is like the Garden of Eden before them,
And behind them a desolate wilderness;
Surely nothing shall escape them.
The verses describe the devastation the locusts cause and the fact that nothing is untouched by that devastation.
What sin did to Judah, because of the plague of locusts it resulted in, it still does in our lives today. Before we sin our lives are a garden. After we sin our life is turned into a desolate wilderness.
Sin robs us of life, leaving death in its wake and just as nothing goes untouched by locusts, so nothing goes untouched by sin. Unless dealt with quickly its pernicious effect spreads to everything, it touches, taints and ruins every part of our life.
Sin turns gardens into wildernesses and nothing escapes its effect.
