Psalm 98 opens:
Oh, sing to the Lord a new song!
For He has done marvelous things;
His right hand and His holy arm have gained Him the victory.
God is a god of new songs. He replaces our old, tired, weary songs with new songs, old experiences with new experiences, old thoughts with new thoughts, old beliefs with new beliefs.
He takes what is broken and not working for us and replaces it with what is whole, healed and serves us well. All of our days this is God’s work, replacing our old with His new, our dysfunction with His perfect function.
In this psalm we’re told to sing. We’re told to sing, because God gives us something to sing about, a new song.
