Psalm 93 verses 4 & 5 say:
4 The Lord on high is mightier
Than the noise of many waters,
Than the mighty waves of the sea.
5 Your testimonies are very sure;
Holiness adorns Your house,
O Lord, forever.
There are times when the “mighty waves of the sea” within us, are very mighty. What that speaks to me of, is the thoughts and emotions that sometimes stir within at times when we are unsettled, undecided and how they can disturb us deeply and rob us of peace. The fears, misgivings, feelings of inadequacy and guilt we sometimes feel, superimposed by the frustration and confusion we may experience in “sorting out” what’s going on within us.
When we find ourselves in such a place of “mighty waves”, verse 5 tells us where to go. We are aware that our own emotions and thoughts are not a reliable place from which to get our bearings, they are changing, shifting, unsure, but as the verse says, God’s testimonies are sure, they are reliable and accurate as a discerner of what is going on within us. They act as our compass to negotiate the “mighty waves” and not get swamped by them.
Lets remember……God’s sure testimonies in the midst of mighty waves.
