In Daniel 10 verse 12, an angel, possibly Gabriel said to Daniel:
12 ……“Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard; and I have come because of your words….”
Daniel had set his heart to understand something, possibly the future of his people or his personal responsibility at the time or how he might bring about the return of his people to their land. With that he had prayed and was told by this angel that his words had been heard as soon as he had started praying, even though there had been a 3 week delay in him receiving this assurance from the angel that his prayer had been heard and his answer to his prayer via the angel. The reason for the delay was because the angel had been withstood by the prince of the kingdom of Persia (verse 13).
Sometimes when we seek to understand difficult situations we face, from God’s perspective, and in humility petition God for them, it can seem like nothing is happening.
Let this verse encourage us. Lets be encouraged, that as the angel said to Daniel, when we pray our words are heard from the first day we humble ourselves before God, and just as the angel was dispatched 21 days before he got to Daniel (to reassure him his prayer had been heard and as the agent of the answer to his prayer), lets be assured things do happen when we pray, whether we see it or not, or know it or not.
From the first day we humble ourselves, our words are heard.
