David says in Psalm 65 verse 5:
5 By awesome deeds in righteousness You will answer us,
O God of our salvation,
You who are the confidence of all the ends of the earth,
And of the far-off seas;
The phrase “the ends of the earth” reminds me of a very similar phrase we read in Psalm 61 where David says in verse 2:
2 From the end of the earth I will cry to You,
When my heart is overwhelmed;
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
The “ends of the earth” or “end of the earth” speak to me of when we feel far from God, when we feel at our breaking point, our absolute edge, limit and in terms of our faith, we are hanging in by a thread.
David says in Psalm 65:5 that God is our confidence there. He is our confidence when He feels furthest from us, very distant. At those times we must exercise faith and believe God is with us, He sees and hears us and will help us as He sees best. We must go to His Word and believe He will speak to us and strengthen us. We must lean fully on whatever we sense Him saying to us or what ever encouragement or comfort He brings us.
If we don’t sense Him speaking, we must lean on the things we do know about God, that He loves us, He is good and does care for us even when we don’t feel it.
God is our confidence at “the ends of the earth”.
