In Ezekiel 23 verses 22 & 26 God says of Jerusalem and her lovers:
22 ‘Behold, I will stir up your lovers against you,
26 They shall also strip you of your clothes
And take away your beautiful jewelry’.
What is described here about the things that Jerusalem had pursued rather than God is reminiscent of the effect things have on us that we love more than God.
When we love something more than God it may seem to work for us and benefit us for a while but in time as verse 22 says, it is as if it is stirred against us, it works against us, harming and hurting us.
As verse 26 says it strips us of our clothes and takes away our beautiful jewelry. In other words it degrades and dishonours us, setting us back rather than forward, down rather than up.
Love God with all your heart…..don’t let anything strip you of your clothes and beautiful jewelry.
