Ezekiel 11 verse 20 talks about God’s people demonstrating that they are His people and He is their God.It says:
20 ….that they may walk in My statutes and keep My judgments and do them; and they shall be My people, and I will be their God.
Today we want to demonstrate we are God’s people and He is our God and in that demonstrate the gospel.
The preceding verses give us the fundamental steps of how to do that, in God’s words to the exiled Jews captive in the nations surrounding Israel and what is said about them. God sent this message to them via Ezekiel and then told him what they would do:
17 Therefore say, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “I will gather you from the peoples, assemble you from the countries where you have been scattered, and I will give you the land of Israel.”’ 18 And they will go there, and they will take away all its detestable things and all its abominations from there. 19 Then I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within them, and take the stony heart out of their flesh, and give them a heart of flesh…..
In verse 17 God told the captive Jews that he would give them the land of Israel, it was His gift to them. To demonstrate the gospel we must understand that the salvation from God it offers us through Christ, is a gift and accept it, embrace it.
Verse 18 describes how the exiles would clear the land of idols and sin. To demonstrate the gospel we must clear the land of sin, repent, turn from all sin in our life.
In verse 19 God said he would put a new heart of flesh within the exiled Jews. Thirdly we must receive and live out of the new heart, the new Spirit the gospel gives us.
These are the 3 fundamental steps in demonstrating to the world that we are God’s people and He is our God and therefore in demonstrating the gospel:
- Accepting the gospel as God’s gift to us.
- Turning from all that is not the gospel, all sin
- Living out the gospel out of the new heart it gives us.
