In Jeremiah 46 verse 28 God says of Israel
28 Do not fear, O Jacob My servant,” says the Lord,
“For I am with you;
For I will make a complete end of all the nations
To which I have driven you,
But I will not make a complete end of you.
I will rightly correct you,
For I will not leave you wholly unpunished.”
These words are a reminder of God’s heart in disciplining us. It isn’t to destroy us, or break us. On the contrary it’s to make us. As the verse says it’s to “rightly correct” us and not leave us “wholly unpunished”, because we are God’s children and it is an uncaring, unwise and very short sighted parent who does not “rightly correct” or who “wholly unpunishes” their child, ignoring behaviours and bents in a child that will harm, hurt and could even destroy him or her in later life.
God’s heart is to save us and those around us from the heartache of unchecked, unhealthy traits and behaviours and to give us the joy of a life that is free like His, serving and loving others.
Thank God He is the God who rightly corrects us and does not leave us wholly unpunished.
