We recently thought about a phrase that occurs repeatedly in the book of Jeremiah speaking of God and His prophets, who rose early to tell God’s people what He wanted them to hear.
The phrase appears in our reading today in Jeremiah 44 verse 4. God speaking says:
4 However I have sent to you all My servants the prophets, rising early and sending them, saying, “Oh, do not do this abominable thing that I hate!”
We rise early for what is important to us. God Himself and under His instructions His servants the prophets, rose early to speak to the people what God wanted to say to them.God rises early to speak to us. It’s important to Him, priority to speak to us, it’s high on His agenda, He’s anxious to do it. There is no reluctance on His part to communicate with us. We do well to be aware of that.
Unlike the prophets of Baal (1 Kings 18:25-29) we don’t serve a God who is slow to speak to us, slow to respond, who we have have to “drag” things out of. He’s up early to speak to us, anxious, keen to do so.
What a good, great, exciting God we serve, who rises early to speak to us.
