Psalm 15 verse 1 poses the question:
Lord, who may abide in Your tabernacle?
Who may dwell in Your holy hill?
Verse 4 says, in answer to those 2 questions:
4 ….He who swears to his own hurt and does not change;
In other words…..someone who is willing to sacrifice, pay a price, hurt…..to keep their word.
This is a challenge to the reliability and strength of our word. When we give our word, if it becomes inconvenient to keep it, do we change it or do we do what we have to do, to keep it, to make it happen, to make good on our commitment ? It’s a question of how weighty our words are.
God says if we are a person of our word, it’s reliable, weighty, dependable, we can be in His presence, we can fellowship with Him. It’s clear, the fact others can depend on our word, is important to God.
God is a god of His word, dependable, reliable and He wants us to reflect Him in that way.
