Jeremiah 17:9 states:
9 “The heart is deceitful above all things,
And desperately wicked;
Who can know it?…”
We’re told our heart is so deceitful and wicked that we cannot even know what’s in it, what its motives are, what lies at the root of our thoughts, decisions and actions.
So what is the solution ? The book of Hebrews in chapter 4 verse 13 says of God:
13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.
To God our hearts are naked and open. What is unknown to us is fully known to Him. How does He tell us what’s in our hearts. The previous verse of Hebrews 12, tells us the means, the implement He uses. It says:
12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
So….our hearts are unknown to us, but fully known to God, and He uses His Word to show us and tell us what is in them.
As we expose ourselves to His Word….our unknown hearts are made known, through the Word.
