Some beautiful things are said about the virtuous wife in Proverbs 31. One of them is the statement in verse 26, that says….
26….And on her tongue is the law of kindness.
Much is said in scripture about words and the tongue, its power to bring life and death ( Proverbs 18:21), the challenge that exists to tame it, how unruly, fickle and inconsistent it can be, blessing one minute, cursing the next ( James 3:1-12).
What a different world it would be if we all followed the example of the virtuous wife and had the law of kindness on our tongue. That we would have as our guide ” If it isn’t kind I’m not going to say it”. This would not only bring out the best in us but also in those around us.
Proverbs 25:15 says ” …a gentle tongue breaks a bone”. It highlights the very positive power of the tongue. With our tongue we can break unhealthy things. Not forcibly, but by melting them, softening them with gentle, kind words.
The tongue is a force to be reckoned with. Lets make sure we use its power for good.
