Isaiah 48 verse 17-19 says:
17 Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer,
The Holy One of Israel:
“I am the Lord your God,
Who teaches you to profit,
Who leads you by the way you should go.
18 Oh, that you had heeded My commandments!
Then your peace would have been like a river,
And your righteousness like the waves of the sea.
19 Your descendants also would have been like the sand,
And the offspring of your body like the grains of sand;
His name would not have been cut off
Nor destroyed from before Me.”
Israel thought it knew better than God and therefore did not heed His commandments ( verse 18) paying dearly, being cut off as a nation ( verse 19 b).
Sometimes we think like Israel, that we know better than God and we pay for it…..we forfeit peace and righteousness (verse 18) and our name is cut off, in the sense that we are cut off from the good God had in mind for us.
We must be convinced we serve a God who teaches us ” to profit” ( verse 17) for our good…..and convinced that His profit is better than ours, His idea of what is good for us is better than our own.
Take God’s profit over ours every time.
