The book of Proverbs tells us the road to true honour. Proverbs 15:33 says:
33 ….And before honor is humility.
There is honour we bring on ourselves, a self sought, self made honour, and there is honour that others and God give us, that comes about because of humility
In the first case we raise ourselves up, in the second God raises us up. The first is counterfeit honour while the second is authentic honour.
Real honour is never something we have as a primary goal, by setting our sights up to the position we can climb to, to where we can be served. In fact quite the opposite. We reach real honour by looking down, to how we can serve and honour others, serve rather than be served.
If we focus on that, on descending and honouring others, God will take care of us ascending and being honoured.
To ascend we must descend, to be honoured we must honour.
