Isaiah 5 verses 20-21 say:
20 Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil;
Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness;
Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
21 Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes,
And prudent in their own sight!
Verse 20 describes what’s happening in many areas of our society, such as around abortion and euthanasia issues. There is a sector of our society calling evil good and good evil, darkness light and light darkness.
The route issue is exposed in verse 21….as a society we are wise in our own eyes, prudent in our own sight.
How can we prevent this ? The solution is given in the Proverbs passage we read 2 days ago. Proverbs 1 verse 7:
7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge…
That’s the solution, the fear of the Lord. What does that mean in practice ? It means considering what God thinks on a matter and acting accordingly. It means bringing God into the conversation, not neglecting His opinion and perspective on a matter.
That’s the surest way to keep us from getting wise in our own eyes and prudent in our own sight….that we…..don’t leave God out of the conversation/picture.
