Psalm 148 says in verses 7,8 & 13:
7 Praise the Lord from the earth….
8 Fire and hail, snow and clouds…..
13 Let them praise the name of the Lord,
For His name alone is exalted;
His glory is above the earth and heaven.
In verses 7 & 8 fire and hail (a form of water) are instructed to praise the Lord, clearly setting God above these basic elements as created phenomena below God and owing their existence to Him. God is the one to be praised and attention is to be directed to Him.
Verse 13 says that God’s glory is above the earth and heaven. In other words the measure of glory in God is in another league to the measure of glory in His creation and therefore He not creation is what is to be praised and venerated.
These days there is a trend to elevate and praise creation, things such as fire and water. We are doing what is warned against in Romans 1:25
25 They exchanged God’s truth for a lie and worshipped and served the creation rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
Let’s always keep the praise and reverence focused on God not His creation, because God’s glory is above the earth and heaven.
