Song of Solomon chapter 2 verse 9 says:
9 My beloved is like a gazelle or a young stag.
Behold, he stands behind our wall;
He is looking through the windows,
Gazing through the lattice.
The picture is painted here that the Beloved, the man in the romance of Song of Solomon reveals himself from behind a wall, or through the windows or lattice. In other words he doesn’t stand out in clear vision. He obscures himself somewhat, by a wall, windows, a lattice.
This is reminiscent of the way God reveals Himself and His truth to us. We see this in the ministry of Jesus who would tell a parable or explain a parable and then say ” He who has ears to hear, let him hear” , as recorded in Matthew 13:9 & 43. It’s as if Jesus was saying, ” I am not going to tell people truths straightforwardly, I’m going to hide, obscure them, so that those who have ears to hear, will hear, those who are hungry for and willing to pursue the truth, will find it”.
God and His truth are for those who are hungry, thirsty for them and willing to pursue them. He therefore makes a search, a chase, a hunt necessary in finding them, by presenting Himself and His truth to us in a somewhat hidden way.
Thus….God is revealed through a window or lattice.
