In Ecclesiastes chapter 4 verse 11 it says:
11 Again, if two lie down together, they will keep warm;
But how can one be warm alone?
The verse reminds me of a story of a Christian who questioned why he needed to be in fellowship with other believers, why he needed the church. One day he visited a wise older man he knew who was a Christian. As they talked about this question, they were sitting in front of a fire and the old man took a red hot coal out of the fire and laid it on its own on the hearth in front of them. Soon the coal lost its glow and heat and became dark and black. He then put the piece of coal back in the fire and soon it was glowing red hot again.
The young man got the point. We need to stay close to other believers who are “glowing”, alive and warm with Christ’s life. That will keep us glowing, staying spiritually hot and alive.
