In Job 40:8, God makes the statement to Job:
8 ….Would you condemn Me that you may be justified?
Mankind has always done this, condemned, criticized God to justify himself, when he doesn’t understand or comprehend something about this world or this life.
When one considers man’s position, it is ridiculous that we should try and set ourselves up above God like that.
When one considers how dependent we are on God, reflected in the words of Job 34:14&15, which says speaking of God:
14 If He should set His heart on it,
If He should gather to Himself His Spirit and His breath,
15 All flesh would perish together,
And man would return to dust.
When one thinks that every living moment of our lives is sustained, and maintained by God and should He “gather to Himself His Spirit and His breath”, we would perish and return to dust, it puts into perspective how much greater and wiser God is than we are.It should cause us like Job, to lay our hand over our mouth ( Job 40:4), when there are things in this life we don’t understand and can’t comprehend.
As we observe life and creation, our dependence upon God among many other things, what they tell us about the magnitude of God’s genius and wisdom above ours, should mean we are okay with not knowing all the answers or always understanding what is going on. It should mean we are willing to lay aside our questions and possible “complaints” towards God.
When we don’t understand life, lets trust God, by silencing our questions and complaints and saying like Job ” I lay my hand over my mouth”.
