The psalmist says in Psalm 119:62
62 At midnight I will rise to give thanks to You,
Because of Your righteous judgments.
Midnight speaks to me of times in our life that are dark, painful, difficult and confusing. The psalmist says ” At midnight I will rise….”. Our natural tendency when things are difficult is not to rise, but to fall, to go down and become discouraged and disheartened. But the psalmist says he rose at midnight to give thanks to God, because of His righteous judgments.
God’s judgments are based on His character and there are certain characteristics of God that never change, His love for us, His goodness and faithfulness. We can always focus on those things and give thanks for them, even when things are difficult. As we do we will rise, and the more we give thanks the more we will rise. Our perspective will change from one of despair and defeat to one of hope and victory.
When things are difficult, focus on God’s unchanging love, goodness and faithfulness, give thanks for them and you will find yourself…..rising at midnight.
