We’re told a remarkable truth in Psalm 78. Verse 41 says speaking of the children of Israel:
41 Yes, again and again they tempted God,
And limited the Holy One of Israel.
Other versions put the first half of the verse as saying the children of Israel put God to the test, and turned back. This refers to the children of Israel’s failure often to trust God and move forward in the direction and way He was telling them to go. In doing so they tested God’s patience, and as the verse says limited God.
It is true when we don’t trust God, have faith in Him, we limit Him. Jesus said “According to your faith be it unto you” ( Matthew 9:29). We limit how much God can do in a situation if we do not have faith in Him, trust Him and express that faith and trust in obedience, by moving forward in the direction He’s telling us to go.
God in His wisdom has limited His degree of activity and involvement in a situation to the degree to which we trust Him. If we don’t have faith and believe His hands are tied.
That puts us in a position where we should desire deeply to trust Him, to have faith in Him, never wanting to limit His activity in our lives or the lives of others as He works through us.
Lets always ask ourselves……are we tying God’s hands ?
