Are you ever on the edge and going under ? At a place where you are on the edge, at the very limit of your resources and going under, feeling overwhelmed by what you face, the demands life is making on you ?
David found himself there in Psalm 61:2. He said:
2 From the end of the earth I will cry to You,
When my heart is overwhelmed;
David was at the end of the earth, at the end of the earth in his experience, far outside his comfort zone, at the very limits of his experience in terms of safety, security and familiarity, feeling very unsafe and insecure. And he was going under, his heart overwhelmed by what was happening in his life.
He then cried to God, prayed a prayer, the last line of verse 2:
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
He prayed God would lead him to the rock that was higher than himself. In praying that he recognised and declared that there was safety, security and higher ground, even in the position he found himself in and he asked God’s help in getting there. He exercised his will so that faith and truth ruled the day not lies and emotions that no doubt bombarded him at that time
We always have a rock, that is higher than us, that is safe and secure and above the things that overwhelm us. As 1 Corinthians 10:4 tells us, that rock is Christ.
Like David when we’re on the edge and going under, lets exercise our will and faith in the fact Christ is with us, recognise that even at those times there is safety, security and higher ground and ask God’s help in getting there.
