August 18 2016 – that no flesh should glory in His presence.

In the story of Elijah’s victory over the prophets of Baal and the events surrounding it, in 1 Kings 18, we’re given several details that demonstrate that the odds were all stacked against Elijah.

First of all there was only one of him and 450 of them (verse 22)..

Secondly his sacrifice was drenched with water (verse 33-35) where their’s wasn’t.

Thirdly when it came to getting home after the contest, Ahab was in a chariot ( verse 44) and he was on foot.

And yet Elijah won the competition ( verse 38) and got home before Ahab ( verse 46) !

It goes to show that God works against the odds, when humanly speaking it all looks as if it should go the other way.

As 1 Corinthians 1 verses 27-29 tells us, He brings wisdom out of foolishness, power out of weakness, using and choosing the base things, the things which are despised and are not to bring to nothing the things that are….why ?

That no flesh should glory in his presence.
