In 1 Kings 14 we are told about the reign of king Rehoboam, in which the gold shields made by his father Solomon were stolen by the king of Egypt and replaced with bronze ones ( verses 25-27).
The context in which this happened was that Judah under Rehoboam’s leadership was not following God ( verses 22-24 of the same chapter). We’re told they did evil in the sight of the Lord, chose not to follow Him.
When ever we chose not to follow God, as was Rehoboam’s experience, gold is replaced by bronze. The quality and virtue of our life slips down, and is not all it could be.
Jesus said in John 10:10 ” I have come that they may have life, and have it in all its fullness “. In other words I have come to give you gold, a gold experience in life.
The first half of the verse says ” The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy”. If we chose not to follow God, we play into the thief, Satan’s hand and like the king of Egypt he’ll come and steal our gold shields and we’ll have to settle for bronze. A life that is something less than it could be.
Chose to follow, pursue God wholeheartedly, don’t let gold turn to bronze.
