The story of David’s treatment of Mephibosheth in 2 Samuel 9 is full of beautiful imagery.
Mephibosheth was lame in his feet ( verse 3). He was disadvantaged, handicapped, a nobody. Also he lived in Lo Debar ( verse 4) which means ” without pasture”, a place characterized by its barrenness, waste lands and devastation. Not a very salubrious, desirable place to live. Living in Lo Debar, one was going no where.
Mephibosheth was a nobody going nowhere.
David the king then brought him to his palace in Jerusalem ( verse 13) and gave him a place at his table like one of his sons ( verse 11).
Mephibosheth went from going nowhere to being a member of the royal household, from being a nobody to being a guest of the king.
Before we knew Christ we were nobodies going nowhere. We were spiritually bankrupt, corrupt having no status, spiritual orphans. In Christ we have been made sons and daughters of the king, part of God’s treasured, cherished royal family. Our life was going no where, it had no true significance, direction or meaning. Now we have eternal significance, direction and meaning, as we pursue God’s will and purpose for our life.
Like Mephibosheth, we have gone….from nobodies going no where to somebodies going somewhere !
