One of today’s Proverbs is well illustrated in today’s Samuel reading.
Proverbs 17:8 says
8 A present is a precious stone in the eyes of its possessor;
Wherever he turns, he prospers.
Abigail’s present to David ( combined with the way she gave it ) described in 1 Samuel 25:18-35 was a precious stone to her and her household. In other words it brought blessing and good to her sphere of influence and averted evil. Abigail demonstrated through the gift she gave and the attitude of her heart ( contriteness and humility ) how powerful that combination can be, how much influence they can have.
When we find ourselves in a situation where a mistake has been made/wrong has been done for which we are directly or indirectly responsible (as Abigail did ), lets follow her example…..be contrite, be humble and give presents to demonstrate our contriteness.
As the proverb says the present will be a precious stone, causing us to prosper, blessing us and averting evil we would otherwise experience because of the mistake/the wrong done.
That’s how you turn presents into precious stones.
