Proverbs 5:3&4 paint a picture of the true workings of sin. They say:
3 For the lips of an immoral woman drip honey,
And her mouth is smoother than oil;
4 But in the end she is bitter as wormwood,
Sharp as a two-edged sword.
The “front end” of sin, its beginning looks & appears attractive and tastes good. It ” drips honey” and is ” smoother than oil” ( verse 3), but the “back end”, the end of sin, is a very different story….it is ” bitter as wormwood”, “sharp as a two edged sword” ( verse 4 ).
Sin never lets you know the end, at the beginning. It never lets you now where it is taking you, where you will wind up down its road. It is deceptive at the core, it is always a lie.
Verse 6, speaking again of the immoral woman says :
6 Lest you ponder her path of life—
Her ways are unstable;
You do not know them.
When you chose the ways of sin, as this verse says ” You do not know them”, we have no idea what we are really getting ourselves into, we actually don’t know where we’re going, the price we will pay, the damage we will do, the pain we invite into our lives.
The front end and back end of sin are very different.
