In Psalm 134 we’re exhorted to bless the Lord at night ( verse 1).
Blessing the Lord at night is a whole different matter to blessing him in the day
.The day speaks of when it is light and we can see what’s going on and life makes sense. The times in our life when things are going well, as we’d like them to and as we think they should. Blessing the Lord then is relatively easy.
But then the night comes, when life does not make sense and there’s pain and confusion from our perspective. The times when we can’t figure out what’s going on, why things are the way they are and what God’s up to. We must learn to bless the Lord even then, believing with our hearts that He is good, He loves us and whatever is happening in our life He wants to use it for good, however much we can’t understand it with our heads.
The Psalm ends verse 3…
3 The Lord who made heaven and earth
Bless you from Zion!
…we’ll be most blessed when we learn to bless God this way, night and day.
When our blessing Him is not primarily about what is happening in our life but about who He is.
