David says in Psalm 64 verse 4 speaking of the enemy and the wicked ” That they may shoot in secret at the blameless”. Our enemy Satan not only attacks us but does so ” in secret “, trying to remain disguised in his attack, so we respond and fight back in all the wrong places.
Paul says in Ephesians 6:12 “we do not wrestle against flesh and blood”, yet Satan tries to get us to believe that we do. When we are attacked or mistreated by someone, he tries to get us to focus on the person who attacked us, so we attack them back, whipping up a conflict between us and them, when in fact the conflict does not primarily involve them. It involves Satan attacking us through them. He attacks us ” in secret “, so we don’t recognize it’s him and therefore where the attack is coming from, because he wants us to focus our counter attack in the wrong place. That way his attack goes unaddressed, while further problems are caused as we are drawn into a conflict with the person who attacked us.
His goal is to disguise his attacks against us, in the form of a person or circumstance, in the hope our response will be misdirected and therefore ineffective.
Remember we not only have an enemy, but one that attacks us “in secret”.
