Psalm 53 opens with the words:
The fool has said in his heart,
“There is no God.”
This verse tells us that to say ” There is no God” is foolish talk, and leads to foolishness.
When we think of those who say ” There is no God” our minds may first turn to those who are atheists, agnostics, those who for whatever reason chose to do life in general without God.
But the truth is any of us can talk like that.
For instance when we allow fear to enter our hearts and control us, we are entertaining foolish talk. We are joining in with the fool in saying ” There is no God”, because we are behaving as if He doesn’t exist, as if the God who said:
Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’
( Isaiah 41:10)
…..never said anything at all.
When we don’t believe God, again we are entertaining foolish talk. We are joining in with the fool in saying ” There is no God “, because we are behaving as if He doesn’t exist, as if the God who said:
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
6 In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct[a] your paths ( Proverbs 3:5-6).
……never said anything at all.
So it is not only the atheist or agnostic who entertain foolish talk, who say ” There is no God”, we do too when we are afraid, or for any reason unbelieving of God or what He has said.
Don’t lets entertain any more foolish talk !
