In the first few verses of Psalm 30, David talks of 3 things God had done for him.
Verse 1: ” You have lifted me up”.
Verse 2: ” You healed me”.
Verse 3: ” You have kept me alive”.
That was David’s experience of God in the Old Testament.
Jesus had the same ministry. He lifted people up above their problems and handicaps, saying to the paralytic in Mark 2:11 ” Arise take up your bed and go to your house”. He healed people of sickness both physical and emotional as Matthew 8:16 tells us, speaking of Jesus at Peter’s house, ” He cast out the spirits ( of those demon-possessed) with a word, and healed all who were sick “. He also gave people life, speaking in John 10:10 of his role as a shepherd of sheep, ” I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. ”
Jesus’ ministry in the New Testament reflected people’s experience of God in the Old, because Jesus was God.
As God lifted, healed and gave life to David, so Jesus lifts, heals and gives us life today.
He’s our lifter, healer and life giver !
